Roleplay Guidelines
This is going to be a brief guide on how proper roleplaying should be executed. This is a little compilation of tips and rules I have learned over the years.
(Modeled after ChadtheCreator's RP guide on ROBLOX. waer all mahy ATFers)
--CHARACTER BUILDING--
When thinking about your character's background and current status, it is important to take into account a number of factors. These factors may include:
Self factor (SF) - How your character's presence affects the immediate vicinity.
Player concentration (PC) - Where most players are located; generally in a town
Faction build (FB) - Which faction has the most people under its command
Role characteristics (RC) - what kind of characters your fellow players are
Pay close attention to the chat. You'll learn the PC and FB of the server. By knowing the PC, you can choose whether or not you want to have a character that lives out of the country, a town, or a base. After living where you do for a while, and doing your job for whatever faction you work with (if any at all,) you'll learn your SF. Is your SF very high, meaning you're a good leader? Is it low, as in does your character tend to keep in a small group or by yourself? Is it somewhere in the middle?
--BASIC CHAT RULES--
To speak, use quotes, regular typing, or voice chat. Example:
"I am hungry."
I am hungry.
Actions are usually displayed through in-game action. You can type it in chat if you'd like:
*I'd swallow a pill.*
OR
-I'd swallow a pill.-
To speak using parentheses is to signify chat that is outside of the roleplay. This is called Out of Character:
(What is your character's RP name?)
(It's Eddy.)
These are the generally accepted chat rules. Using other forms of chat may confuse other players.
--ROLEPLAY ERRORS--
Breaking the new life rule - Whether it is to run straight back to your stuff, or revenge kill someone, it is breaking the new life rule and will be counted as FRP (or FailRP) and is a bannable offense.
Cutting - To jump into another group or faction's roleplay in an unacceptable fashion. When you find a group of roleplayers deep within a subway or wasteland, it is encouraged that you exercise strong caution. They may seek to vote-kick you for being near them. If you seek to join them, keep your distance, examine their RC through chat, and plan the proper time to enter. If you plan on raiding another faction or group, it is recommended that you tell them about the impending attack using Outside Chat first. This will cause less confusion and arguing.
General errors - This is a tricky one, since it spans so many possibilities. To be put briefly, if you encounter a roleplayer(s) who affect the story in a way that is unacceptable, ask them to change their actions a bit by using OOC chat. If they don't comply, either ignore them or votekick them.
--FORMING BONDS--
If you wish to form relations with other roleplayers, you must take in account every factor. Based on your SF, you can decide which faction or group that would best suit you. You need to decide which FB you would like the most, and work towards that. You must examine the chat and keep an eye on where players are on the map, so you can get an idea of the PC. Finally, once you have your faction, character, and location, you must examine the RC very closely. Be kind to other roleplayers at the start, and you will build bonds very quickly. Work with the nearby faction and help them by trading items, doing your job, and scavenging for them. Every once in a while, gather a few friends and go on a quest with them through the wasteland to find a special item or supplies.
